Global Equity Markets Seminar – GEMS 2008
"GEMS is a unique learning experience as well as an excellent opportunity to engage in an exchange of ideas with other industry leaders." - Reto Francioni, CEO, Deutsche Börse
VOLATILITY CONFERENCE
Volatility is very much with us in today's equity markets. Day-to-day price swings are often large and intra-day volatility elevated, especially at market openings and closings. What explains this? What does this say about the quality of our markets? Can short-period volatility be controlled by better market design and a more effective use of electronic technology? The conference will address questions such as these. In so doing, we seek deeper knowledge of the dynamic process of price formation, and of the market structure and regulatory environment within which our markets function.
Rethinking Regulatory Structure: What do our Financial Markets Need?
Financial markets around the world are being reshaped by three powerful forces: competition, technology, and regulation. Each of these drivers may be viewed as desirable or well intentioned, but their joint impact is producing results that are difficult to predict, hard to control, and not easy to understand. This past year, extreme market turbulence has highlighted key issues that are involved, and much attention has turned to the necessity of appropriately regulating the markets. This conference has one purpose: to shed further light on what the appropriate regulatory structure should be.
