Microsoft Challenge: FAQ overview

  • How many people comprise a team?
    o Teams are made up of 3-5 people.
  • Do all team members need to be Baruch students?
    o Yes, all team members must be part of a graduate program at Baruch.
  • What is the deadline to submit the names of  my team members?
    o Your team members must be submitted by February 27.
  • How do I find other members for my team? How do I find a team to join?
    o It is your responsibility to find members for your team.  Come to one of the kickoff sessions on February 25 to meet others who are interested in participating.  Clubs are also a good source of team members.
  • Can I be on more than one team?
    o No.  You can only be part of one team.
  • What should I expect in terms of time commitment?
    o The amount of time you put is not this challenge is up to you and your team.
  • What is the format of the Challenge?
    o The Microsoft Digital Marketing Challenge at Baruch College provides participants with the opportunity to learn more about careers in digital marketing through a product case study. Throughout the competition, each student team receives training in digital marketing tools and technology and is mentored by digital marketing professionals from Microsoft.
  • What is the deliverable?
    o The final deliverable includes a written Marketing proposal and two presentations of 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes of Q& A.
  • What are the rules?
    o At least one member from each team must attend one of each of the two search sessions, which are offered at multiple times
    o All team members are required to present in the First and Final Round Presentations
    o All teams must submit a final Marketing Proposal (max. 5 pages + appendices) along with a copy of its presentation
    o Failure to meet the deadlines and requirements will result in the elimination of the entire team
  • What does Round One require?
    o Round one requires a 15 minute presentation, plus 5 minute Q and A session, to be delivered on April 18.  Final marketing proposals are also due at this time.
  • How do I know if my team qualifies for Round Two?
    o If you qualify for round 2, we will notify you by sending a message to the e-mail address, the phone number, or mailing address (if any) listed on your entry within seven days.
  • What does Round Two require? 
    o Groups that move the round 2 will be required to make a final presentation to the executive panel of judges.
  • How do I find out who wins?
    o We will post the names of confirmed winners online after 5/8/2008 at [www.baruch.cuny.eduURL].  This list will remain posted until 6/8/2008.
  • What are the prizes?
    o Each member of the winning team will receive an Xbox, a Zune with music download credits, and a networking dinner with the Microsoft team. Microsoft will cover the fee for the winning team to become certified by adExcellence.
    o Runners up will each receive a Zune with music download credits.
  • How can my team and I get help?
    o There will be information sessions (see calendar) as well as an on campus advisor Professor Kelly O’Brien
