NEW YORK, NY — November 10, 2015 — Baruch College offers two of the top 10 programs in the country for students who seek to launch their own business, according to The Princeton Review. The college significantly improved its rankings in the annual survey in both the graduate and undergraduate entrepreneurship categories.

#9, Graduate

For eight consecutive years Baruch College has been included in one or both of the undergraduate and graduate lists, and this year’s rankings are the highest the college has appeared on each list. The selections were made from among more than 300 schools with entrepreneurship programs, based on surveys by The Princeton Review in partnership with Entrepreneur magazine.

“We’re very proud to be recognized for our entrepreneurship programs, which are a key element of our commitment to provide academically rigorous business education that is both world-class in quality and reputation and worldwide in its impact,” said Dr. H. Fenwick Huss, Willem Kooyker Dean of the Zicklin School of  Business.

“Our rankings reflect our commitment to provide students with a unique blend of entrepreneurship education that offers the opportunity to take action, innovate and pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Dr. Ramona K. Zachary, Academic Director of the Lawrence N. Field Programs in Entrepreneurship, and chair of the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management.

The Field Programs are a unique and comprehensive model for entrepreneurship, bringing together faculty, staff, students, consultants, and entrepreneurs to provide educational programs and activities as well as conduct and disseminate research. Students can take in-depth courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels that build their entrepreneurial skills.  Courses are offered in the areas of creativity, ideation and innovation; leadership; social business; technology; communication and negotiation; social entrepreneurship and community development; women and entrepreneurship; intrapreneurship; and acceleration.  The faculty are world-renowned researchers that lead the Entrepreneurship Research Society and Entrepreneurship Research Journal, which is indexed in Thomson ISI.

The entrepreneurship outreach arm is the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship, which houses the Baruch College Small Business Development Center, the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise, and is associated with the CUNY Center for Student Entrepreneurship.  Collectively these programs conduct one-on-one counseling, co-working, conferences, workshops, trainings, lectures, makerspace activities, various business plan and pitch competitions, and an incubator/accelerator program.

Methodology:

The Princeton Review tallied its lists of top 25 undergraduate and top 25 graduate schools based a survey it conducted from May through August 2015 of more than 300 schools offering programs in entrepreneurship studies. More than three dozen data points were analyzed for the rankings. Among them were the percentage of faculty, students, and alumni actively and successfully involved in entrepreneurial endeavors, the number and reach of mentorship programs, and funding for scholarships and grants for entrepreneurial studies and projects.
