FAQ overview

What is the Full-Time Honors Program? What makes it different from the full-time FlexTime program?

Overview

Full-Time Honors MBA Program (FTH)

The Full-Time Honors MBA Program gives highly qualified students access to all that Baruch College and the Zicklin School of Business has to offer - with a small college feel.  Honors MBA students learn in a cohort setting with distinguished faculty, work with keenly motivated students, match wits with New York's prominent business leaders, and seek employment opportunities among the world's top firms.  The Honors MBA program fosters a collaborative culture among students, faculty, and program administrators.

The Flex-Time MBA Program

Zicklin's highly ranked Flex-Time MBA program prepares students for professional careers in a competitive business environment.  A diverse student population and faculty with broad academic and professional backgrounds provide a rich learning experience both within and outside the classroom.

Students typically follow a prescribed sequence of courses and are together in cohort modules for their first four core courses. Each module consists of two "paired" courses that meet back-to-back twice a week. In this way, students have an efficient schedule and can get to know each other in two shared courses.

Flex-Time students attending school full-time may complete the program in two years.  Students attending part-time can complete the program in four years or less.  Accountancy majors seeking CPA certification may require an additional semester of course work. All students can accelerate their studies by taking additional courses on a space available basis, if time and energy permit.

Most evening courses meet two nights a week, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and from 7:35 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. (Some courses begin at 5:40 p.m.) Daytime sections may be available for selected courses.

When are classes offered? Are there weekend classes?

The Flex-Time program offers courses primarily in the evening. Courses for the Full-Time Honors MBA Program are during the day for the first year, and both day and evening for the second year. The Accelerated Part-Time MBA Program offers courses two nights a week and on Saturdays.  If there is space available, students from the Flex-Time program may take Saturday classes.

Can I switch from part-time to full-time and vice versa in the FlexTime program?

Yes, you can switch between part-time study to full-time study in the Flex-Time program depending upon your personal needs and, for International Students, your visa requirements.

Can I switch into the Honors Program from the Flex-Time program?

No.   Some of the major requirements of the Full-Time Honors Program are offered at orientation and during the first term.  Students entering this program after the first term would have missed too much of the cohort experience to transfer in at this point.

Can I take non-degree / non-matriculated courses?

Studying as a non-degree (non-matriculated) student is not an option. All students must be offically admitted in either the MBA or MS program in order to take classes.

How many graduate courses can I transfer to this program?

You can transfer up to 12 credits. Transfer students are considered new applicants and must follow the same application process. We permit the transfer of a maximum of 12 degree credits from a similarly accredited graduate program for courses that would have been required in the program being pursued here and for which a grade of at least B was obtained. Of the 12 credits, a maximum of 1 course (3-4 credits) will be allowed for courses in your major.  Note that transfer credits cannot have been used to fulfill previous degree requirements.

Can I begin classes in the summer?

There is no summer entry. However, early applicants for the fall semester may be eligible to take some classes in the summer.

Be advised that the number of summer courses available is limited therefore, seats in any course are not guaranteed.

Can I switch into the APT program from the Flex-Time program?

No.  The APT program admits students for the fall only as it is a cohort program.  Students work through the core together and follow a set schedule in order to complete the MBA in 28 months.  We are not able to admit students mid-program, as those students would be off the sequence the rest of the cohort is following.

Can I switch from the APT program into the Flex-Time program?

Yes.  Students are able to switch to the Flex-Time program if they need to alter their program or need more time to complete the degree requirements.
