Complete Program Description
XBRL promises to be a once in a career leap forward in corporate and equity research reporting that will enable much more efficient, accurate and comprehensive investment research and analysis than ever before available. XBRL, or eXtensible Business Reporting Language, is a computer file format for the electronic communication of financial information which individually "tags" content to allow for hyper-detailed automated analysis and comparison of financial reports without the need for re-keying of information. It has been adopted by regulators and stock exchanges internationally and in the U.S. by the SEC in a voluntary filing program for reports onto the EDGAR system. This event began with presentations on how XBRL fits into the equity research and investment analysis process and included live demonstrations on its current use in these areas. The focus was on how XBRL could improve the regular tasks performed by analysts and investors, including the access and analysis of information from corporate filings and earnings releases and performing advanced and comparative research and analysis.
Following the introductory presentations, the event focused on the implementation of XBRL into the regulatory reporting process in the U.S. such that it met the needs of individual investors and professional analysts. Brief speeches were made by key regulators and stakeholder representatives in the process to be followed by panel discussions about how XBRL could add the most value to investors and what needs to be done from a regulatory perspective in order to make this a reality. The event’s attendees had a front row seat at the decision makers’ discussion about the future of financial reporting in the country.
XBRL for Equity Research and Investment Analysis is meant to both demonstrate the use of XBRL for equity research and investment analysis and to promote discussion about the implementation of XBRL by regulators and the financial community. It is targeted towards professional buy and sell-side equity analysts and research directors, portfolio managers, and corporate finance reporting personnel, but is open to any interested parties.
