What is the Marketing Resource Lab?
The Marketing Resource Lab (formerly the Direct Marketing Lab), located on the 2nd floor of the Newman Library, is where the academic discipline of marketing merges with professional marketing resources. The lab is a faculty-directed, student-run resource center that supports student learning in the areas of advertising, direct marketing, and marketing research. It seeks to accomplish its mission by enhancing information literacy through student training in the use of marketing software and databases, and by helping students gain practical experience in solving real-world problems with independent study projects and marketing competitions. The Lab prepares marketing undergraduate and graduate students for their careers through the practical use of graphic design, direct marketing, and marketing research tools, in consultation with on-site Media Planning, Direct Marketing, and Market Research consultants, as well as other fellow students and marketing faculty.

Over the years, using the resources of the lab, our students have enjoyed considerable success in marketing competitions. Many student teams in the past have won awards in the Collegiate Echo Competition, a direct marketing competition sponsored by the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. Last year Baruch students won a Gold (1st place) and a Bronze (3rd place) Echo Award. In fact, over the years Baruch student teams have won more direct marketing awards in national competitions than any other school in the country. Students have also fared well in the National Student Advertising Competition, sponsored by the American Advertising Federation. Baruch won the Regional championships in that competition last year and placed 11th nationally.
The Marketing Resource Lab was recognized for its academic excellence in a discussion during the DMEF Board of Directors meeting during the 2007 Direct Marketing Days of New York event, as a result of Baruch’s students’ performance.
