Direct Marketing Center Opens in Newman Library
In the last two years, Baruch College students have won more awards from the Direct Marketing Association than students in any other graduate program in the United States. Since 2002, 38 students in the Zicklin School of Business won gold, silver and bronze trophies plus finalist and honorable mention awards-- 14 in this year alone.
A major part of their success can be attributed to support from the library, particularly the instruction and assistance provided by Professor Lisa Ellis, the library's subject specialist in Marketing. Generous support from the Direct Marketer's Gateway, Inc. has enabled the college to establish a Direct and Interactive Marketing Resource Center in the Newman Library to increase the involvement of the library in the teaching of direct and interactive marketing. According to Harvey Markovitz, Professor of Marketing and leader of the project to develop the center, "The Direct and Interactive Marketing Resource Center functions as a marketing laboratory for students in both graduate and undergraduate degree programs. The design of the lab replicates facilities and resources that might be found at major direct marketing advertising agencies. Instructors not only teach theory and practical applications of those theories through case study analysis in the classroom, but challenge students to think creatively as marketers." Access to the Center is restricted to students in Direct and Interactive Marketing courses.
