Outreach & Events
At the Field Center we believe in an integrated system where academics and the real world meet. That is why we strive to provide our constituencies (entrepreneurs, students, and faculty) with excellent resources where they can get the needed assistance.
Baruch College Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
Baruch SBDC is one of 23 Centers in the State of New York that provides one-on-one counseling and training services on all aspects of starting and operating a business. Professional experts provide assistance with a wide range of business challenges including the creation of a focused business plan, selecting funding alternatives, financial statements, developing marketing plans and complying with licensing and regulatory requirements among others things.
Workshops & Seminars
The Baruch SBDC also offers free workshops and seminars geared to start-up and established businesses. Seminars such as business plan development and starting new ventures are designed to provide a foundation for the entrepreneur. Other workshops such as marketing basics and resource marshalling are designed to improve a business owner’s knowledge and skills in specific areas. Workshops are also offered on such topics as franchising, home-based businesses, financing, strategic planning, entrepreneurial selling, and procurement.
Field Fellowship Program
The Field Fellowship Program is an opportunity open to Baruch students where students can acquire real world experience in managing a small business by providing technical support services (including assistance in developing business and marketing plans), evaluating and selecting funding alternatives, accounting systems and technology; supervising employees; and studying the implications of business decisions.
Financial Women's Association (FWA)
The Financial Women’s Association of New York (FWA), is a non-profit professional organization with a membership of approximately 1,000 women and men, (mostly women) professionals working in the financial services industry or who hold a financial position in another industry. To fulfill that part of its mission which is “to encourage women to seek career opportunities in finance and business” the FWA has as one of its outreach programs, a Mentoring Program at Baruch College, housed in the Field Center.
The primary focus is on personal and career development; one-to-one mentoring; networking with mentors and other FWA members at FWA receptions; with the strong support of monthly luncheon meetings with speakers and panels. Building a personal relationship between mentor and mentee is at the heart of the program and has helped mentees win internships at prestigious firms and secure challenging positions in major financial institutions.
Baruch College & Merrill Lynch Entrepreneurship Competition
The Business Plan Competition offers students the opportunity to participate in an exciting learning experience that inspires innovative thinking and paves the way for the emergence of new firms. Teams of aspiring student entrepreneurs submit concepts for new ventures—real ideas for real businesses—with the expectation of bringing the businesses to market
Baruch's Entrepreneurial Network (BEN)
BEN is a joint effort between the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship and Baruch College’s Executives on Campus (EOC) program, in support of the Baruch College & Merrill Lynch Entrepreneurship Competition. The program is designed to assist students who have reached the final round of the competition in developing and launching their businesses.
We look forward to your participation in our programs and events!
