Center Director

Terrence F. Martell

Terrence F. MartellDr.Martell, who has been a director since January 12, 2007, serves on the board of ICE Futures U.S., Inc. where he is Vice Chairman. Dr. Martell is the Director of the Weissman Center for International Business at Baruch College/CUNY where he is also the Saxe Distinguished Professor of Finance. As Director of the Weissman Center for International Business at Baruch College, he oversees a myriad of international programs and projects. He is also Chair of the Baruch College Faculty Senate. His particular area of expertise is international commodity markets. He teaches and conducts research in this area.

Prior to joining Baruch College in 1988, Dr. Martell was Senior Vice President of the Commodity Exchange in New York City. Dr. Martell is currently a board member of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index Oversight Committee. He is a Trustee of the PDC/CUNY Welfare Fund wich manages health benefits for the employees of the City University of New York. A resident of Pelham, New York, he served as President of the Pelham School Board and the United Way of Pelham.

Lene Skou is the Deputy Director of the Weissman Center for International Business and adjunct professor of business law at Baruch College.  Ms. Skou joined the Center in October 2000.  Prior to working at the Weissman Center, she served as law clerk to the Honorable Richard W. Goldberg of the U.S. Court of International Trade and senior trade policy analyst for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  Ms. Skou earned her J.D. from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and has an LL.M. from New York University School of Law.  She is admitted to practice in New York State. Ms. Skou is a member of the board of the Financial Women’s Association and a member of the board of the Asian American Asian Research Institute of the City University of New York.

Beth Miller is the Senior Internship Coordinator of the Center’s Internship Placement Program since 2002. She manages the Internship Placement Program and its staff of five, which coordinates the matching of students to domestic and international internship opportunities in a variety of fields. She develops and hosts various professional development workshops for the Program’s students and oversees the selection of specific academic scholarships.

Ms. Miller worked as a Marketing Communications Associate with the financial advisor training program of Morgan Stanley DW, Inc. (2000-2002). She also worked as a Communications Coordinator, Acting Communications Manager, and Staff Writer for the corporate headquarters of Barnes & Noble, Inc. (1996-2000). Ms. Miller earned her MA in Education (1996) from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ and her BA in Secondary Education (1993) from Capital University, Columbus, OH.

Richard Mitten has been Director of Study Abroad since October 2004. Dr. Mitten lived and worked in Europe for over twenty years, where he served as Executive Director of the Center for International and Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Vienna, as the Program Director for the University of California's Vienna Study Center, and as Associate Professor of History at Central European University in Budapest. Dr. Mitten holds a B.A. from Columbia University, a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cambridge, and a Ph.D. from the University of Vienna.

Active in professional organizations such as NAFSA and the Forum on Education Abroad, Dr. Mitten has also served on the National Advisory Board of the Center for Education Abroad, and is currently on the Strategic Advisory Committee of the Scuola Lorenzo de’ Medici, based in Florence. Dr. Mitten is the author or co-author of three books as well as scholarly articles on the subjects of antisemitism and the recent history of Austria and Germany.

Lancia Yan is the Global Student Certificate Coordinator of the Weissman Center for International Business.  She has also taught Business 1000 Recitation classes for the past three years at Baruch College.  Prior to the Weissman Center, she worked directly under Ralph Lauren’s Spokesperson, the SVP of North American Communications, at Polo Ralph Lauren in the Corporate Communication/Public Relations Office.  In addition, Ms. Yan presently serves on the Board of the Friends of the French Culinary Institute.  Ms. Yan graduated from Baruch College with both her BA and MA in Corporate Communication.
