Launch New Certificate Programs in International Trade Operations & Procedures

"We are pleased to launch new professional certificate programs in international trade operations and procedures. These programs build on Baruch’s considerable experience in offering degree programs in international business, as well as the decade long track record of the Weissman Center for International Business in delivering educational programs to Baruch students and to the international business community in New York City. By integrating this experience with Baruch’s Continuing and Professional Studies programs, our goal is to deliver a competitive, industry focused educational curriculum that will provide tools needed to achieve professional development goals in international trade."

Dr. Terrence F. Martell
Director, Weissman Center for International Business

In the Fall semester of 2006 Baruch College launched a series of certificate programs designed to give participants a competitive advantage in the many industries in our region that are engaged in importing and exporting. At the same time, these programs will help companies upgrade the skills of their employees to better serve global customers and meet evolving security and compliance requirements in a post 9/11 world.

Students can take core courses that provide a solid base for careers in
international trade as well as more advanced programs that provide deeper knowledge in areas of particular interest. Our instructors are experienced practitioners in their field who will provide practical, up-to-date information that students can apply. Course materials use the actual documents involved in import/export transactions and case studies based on day-to-day business scenarios.

Import Trade Operations & Procedures:

The importation process is challenging and requires a unique set of skills. This certificate program is designed to provide the student with a complete and cohesive set of skills focused on the procedures, terminology, documentation and regulations for the import of goods into the United States. Classes are taught by accomplished and respected practioners with years of experience in the import process.

Export Trade Operations & Procedures:

Those students whose primary interest is in exporting merchandise to markets outside the United States need to understand the often complex procedures, terminology, documentation and regulations associated with exporting goods. Classes in this program are designed to provide up-to-date information and practical skills that will help students be competitive in this dynamic area. Classes are taught by experienced professionals with strong industry ties.

Customs Broker License Preparation (CBLE):

The Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, offers the Customs Broker Licensure Examination twice per year, in April and October. The exam is extremely demanding and it is important to build your skills prior to taking the exam. The chances of passing the examination are greatly enhanced by taking a good class to hlep you prepare for the exam. This comprehensive program will take you from the basics to case studies based on real life situations. Completing the Customs Brokers License Preparation program will help you pass the exam and become a valued employee to a Customs Broker or an importer.

International Supply Chain Security & Compliance:

The program's goal is to give students an understanding of the rules and regulations governing merchandise imports and exports of goods in the post 9/11 world. Students will learn about the issues involved, the relevant government agencies as well as best practices in supply chain security and compliance.

International Entrepreneurship:

Students will develop a business plan and have the opportunity to network with professionals from various fields as well as other entrepreneurs. The content of these courses is meant to give the entrepreneur an overview of the import/export process and the basic skills to establish an import and/or export business.

Whether our students are new to the field, entrepreneurs, or experienced professionals, our goal is to be a partner in their international success.
