Findings of Survey on Foreign Direct Investment in NYC
Why do foreign companies choose to operate in New York City? What is the value to them of a local presence? How do they benefit New York City’s economy?
Answers to these questions and additional insight on the
macro and micro issues of corporate foreign affiliates were the goals of
a large-scale survey of international companies in New York City,
conducted under the auspices of the Weissman Center for International
Business at Baruch College. One hundred forty-two foreign companies,
with median revenues of $11 million, participated in the survey, released
today at Baruch College.
The survey was conducted by Baruch College professors Lilach Nachum (lead researcher); Andy Grein; Cliff Wymbs and Mark Chadwin and supported by the Weissman Center. The following panel of experts discussed the survey findings: Michael Baldwin, former Managing Director, Deutsche Bank; Dr. Dilek Aykut, World Band; Professor Robert Lipsey, Director, New York Office, NBER; and Dr. James Orr, Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Dr. Terrrence F. Martell, Weissman Center Director moderated the event.
