Scholarships and Fellowships

Private funding support has enabled the Weissman Center to offer a wide variety of scholarships to deserving students, helping to advance academic excellence and enrich lives.

Among the scholarships offered by The Weissman Center are:

Profiles of Scholarship Recipients

The following student profiles are but a few examples of how these scholarships have prepared students to succeed in both the workplace and in their lives.

 HELPING DREAMS COME TRUE…

Pamela Boltan (MBA ‘07)

-Recipient of Mitsui USA Scholarship

Pamela Bolton is dedicated to finding solutions for global health problems. Before attending Baruch College, Ms. Bolton worked with non-profits in African to bring medical care to women. She decided to pursue an MBA at Baruch so that she could develop her analytical skills and learn more about how buiness could help provide solutions to global health issues. Ms. Boltan was the recipient of a two-year Mitui USA scholarship. She also received support from the C.V. Starr Study Aboard Fellowship program to pursue studies in South Africa. While in South Africa, Ms. Bolton was able to conduct research where she interviewed local companies about how they are responding to the AIDS crisis. Upon graduation, Ms. Bolton took her dream to the corporate world and work with a company that provides strategic guidance to pharmaceutical and technology companies. Without the financial support she Received while at Baruch, she would not have been able to realize her dream.

 

Barbara Geyer Blasco (BBA ’08)

-Recipient of Charles H. Falk Memorial Scholarship

Ms. Blasco studied international marketing at Baruch. She recently completed her courses and received her degree in the Spring of 2008. During her college years, Ms. Blasco held part time work and internships while maintaining a high GPA in her coursework. During her time at Baruch, Ms. Blasco worked part time at the Weissman Center as a marketing coordinator. She worked on various teams, including the research team that conducted phone surveys and processed data for a study on the attitufes of New York City’s small business about going global.  Findings from this research were presented at an international conference in Athens, Greece organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Ms. Blasco also gained international experience interning for the North American office of Invest in Denmark. She is currently working for Epsilon, a company specializing in e-marking solutions.

 

 

Andreea Ursu (BA ’05)

-Recipient of Colin Powell Fellowship in International Diplomacy

Ms. Ursu graduated in 2005 with a BA in corporate Communications. She was one of the college’s first Colin Powell Fellows in 2004 and currently works as an economic policy program assistant for the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. ion Washington, D.C. In the Spring of 2008, she was selected as a recipient of the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship. The two-year fellowship covers the cost of her Master Degree program at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University., and ultimately leads to her dream job as a foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State. Ms Ursu came to the United States when she was eight years odl. Her family fled the communist regime of their native Romania ad came to the United States as political refugees. As a new American, she greatly appreciates the opportunities she has had in this country.
