5th Annual XBRL Conference: XBRL and Emerging Equity Research Technologies

The use of XBRL—or eXtensible Business Reporting Language— has been mandated by the SEC for the largest companies in the country beginning in June. It is also fast becoming the new standard for the exchange of research reports, having been adopted by the RIXML research consortium and by global brokers in 2008. This free industry event will explore and demonstrate the use of XBRL in equity research and other emerging research technologies such as internet data mining, financial community blogs, RSS news feeds, and new quantitative analysis investment strategies. The program is brought to you by NYSSA’s Improved Corporate Reporting Committee and the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity.

Over the past year, alternative research methods and emerging research technologies have taken much larger roles in the equity research marketplace and the advent of XBRL promises to accelerate this trend.  XBRL is the new market standard format for financial reports which individually “tags” all of the numbers and individual content items in a regulatory or research report using a standardized format to allow for hyper-detailed automated analysis and comparison without the need for re-keying of information. XBRL is revolutionizing financial reporting by enabling timely, efficient, accurate, inexpensive, and comprehensive financial analysis.

This NYSSA program, hosted in partnership with the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity at Baruch College, will have key organization leaders speak about the introduction of XBRL.  Research industry insiders will discuss and demonstrate the use of XBRL and other emerging research technologies in the investment research and analysis process.  The program will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, presentations and live demonstrations.

This free event is targeted towards professional buy- and sell-side equity analysts, research directors, portfolio managers, and corporate finance reporting personnel, but is open to any interested parties.

Visit www.xbrl.org for more information about XBRL.

The RIXML organization will host an equity research industry networking reception with food and drink immediately follow the presentations.
