About the Program
Energy – always an important topic – has become hot this past year. The Deepwater Horizon disaster shut oil exploration in the Gulf. Fracking (hydraulic fracturing, used to release natural gas from shale) has been linked to everything from environmental degradation to water that catches fire. The tsunami in Japan destroyed the Fukushima nuclear plant, and led Germany to declare an end to its use of nuclear power. On top of the fossil fuel disasters, progress on innovative energy schemes (smart grid, wind, solar, and bio fuels) has not sped along. Energy is a vital component to community and business life. What role should business play in developing a sound energy policy, one that provides for a sustainable future for the people and businesses that make up communities? We explore those issues in our conference on “New Business Models and Energy Innovation”.
