Overview

baruch image 22The 10-month Zicklin Executive Master of Science program is uniquely designed to help financial executives master cutting-edge financial analytical tools and strengthen their judgment to use these tools effectively. Launched in 1996 the Executive MS in Finance program remains a unique educational opportunity within the New York metropolitan area.

The Executive MS program teaches modern finance theory, applications, and analytic skills, providing professionals with the tools needed to cope effectively with today's changing market, students learn real world financial and investment decision-making under different market conditions.

This innovative program blends theory with advanced financial management problems and teaches essential up-to-date knowledge now used by the most successful professionals in finance. This practical degree is ideal for professionals interested in upgrading their technical finance skills or for those with strong quantitative backgrounds seeking to change careers.

The Program Environment

This exceptional educational experience is designed to produce highly effective performers in today's fast-changing world of finance. Program learning is enhanced by small class size and an emphasis on group work, enabling a student to work closely with faculty a peers rich in professional experience.

Students follow the program as a cohort further intensifying the learning experience and results in a network of future business relationships.

Classes are taught by faculty, who are experts in modern financial theory and its applications. Practitioners lead a number of the modules and seminar sessions from the finance community. Professor's blend cutting edge theory with practical business applications making each class an exciting and rewarding experience.

Classes meet all day Saturday, usually from 8:30am to 5:30pm and one evening per week, so as not to interfere with a student's professional commitments.

International Study Tour

As an integral and required part of the educational experience is learning how business operates in a global business environment, students participate in a required international study tour to major centers of financial and business activity. The trip provides an opportunity to experience first hand what has been studied. Students meet with senior executives from major corporations and visit corporate headquarters.

The international study tour is an invaluable experience and has proven to be a highly enjoyable highlight of the program. Recent trips have been to Hong Kong, China, Ireland, The Czech Republic, Hungary, Argentina and Brazil. Destinations vary from year to year. The trip normally takes place between the second and third trimester and is generally eight to ten days long. The 2008 trip will be to Beijing and Shanghai in China. Trip costs paid by the college include transportation, accommodations and most meals.

The Admissions Process

This fast-paced, rigorous program is intended for managers and executives who would like to upgrade their technical financial skills or, for those with strong quantitative skills, to change careers. Given the program's strong focus, candidates are expected to have strong quantitative skills acquired through academic coursework and/or relevant professional experience as well as an understanding of the business environment. Candidates should have a minimum of three years relevant experience. The average number of years experience for the incoming class of 2007 was twelve.

Applications are currently being accepted for the Fall Semester. Decisions are made on a rolling admission basis. Because class size is limited, it is advisable for interested candidates to submit their applications as early as is practical. Priority in admission is established by date of application.

A bachelors degree (or foreign equivalent) is required for admission. TOEFL is also required for candidates if English is not their native language or if educated in non-English speaking institutions. Also, two letters of recommendation, Sponsor's Agreement, and a personal interview are required. (Please see our How To Apply page for complete information about the admissions process.

Submission of a GMAT test score is not required as part of the admissions process.

The cost of the program includes tuition and fees, orientation, textbooks and related course materials, the international trip, and class day meals. While company sponsorship is typical, it is not a requirement for admission. Financial aid in the form of student loans is available for eligible students.
