Department of Law
Law permeates every area of business activity and is therefore a vital component of a professional business education. There are few business decisions of any consequence that do not carry legal implications and legal risks. The modern business professional must understand and effectively manage these legal issues and risks and function within the complicated legal regulatory environment as part of everyday business activities. The study of law also helps to develop critical thinking, analytical, negotiating and oral and written communication skills, which are essential for success in today's competitive business environment.
The Department of Law offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate communications intensive business law courses designed to augment and complement the various major fields of undergraduate and graduate study at Baruch and also offers a comprehensive law minor. The Department supervises the real estate law offerings of Baruch's Real Estate Program, offers the required courses for the New York State Certified Public Accountant licensing examination and provides full-time pre law advisement, including workshops, seminars and other events.
The Department of Law's scholarly faculty includes recognized experts in contract law, business organizations, employment and labor law, computer and e-commerce law, international law, intellectual property, health law, education law, entertainment law, constitutional law and real estate law. Many of its faculty are active in bar association matters and the provision of pro-bono services, render services to the courts and the business community and serve on boards and committees of various business, civic and charitable organizations.
