Prelaw Advisement
Prelaw Advisor: Professor Sandra J. Mullings
Thinking about law school? The Prelaw Advisor is available to advise all undergraduates, graduate students and alumni who are considering a career in the law, at any stage of the process. Appointments may be made during posted office hours or at other mutually convenient times.
Before you make an appointment, you should pick up and read a copy of the Prelaw Handbook. Copies are available in the office of the Prelaw Advisor and in the Department of Law office (Room 9-225 of the Vertical Campus). The Handbook contains a great deal of information on all stages of the process of considering and applying to law school. It also has resource lists of books and websites for additional information, including lists of books and videos available in the Newman Library. Copies of the LSAT & LSDAS Registration Book are also available.
Each year, usually in the early fall, the Law School Admission Council sponsors a Law School Forum in New York City. Representatives from law schools around the country attend and are available to answer your questions and to provide you with materials on the law school. There are also presentations on various issues of concern to students considering a career in the law. There is no charge to attend. Watch for announcements of the date and place of the Forum or check the LSAC website at www.lsac.org.
If you are considering law school, you should also register with the Prelaw Advisor to get on the mailing list for announcements of events, new additions to the library or other news that may be of interest to you. You may also want to get involved with Baruch’s Prelaw Society or at least attend some of the many workshops, panels and other events that the club presents. (See the Prelaw Society Blackboard site.)
