Curriculum

The Marketing and International Business curriculum is geared towards educating future leaders in both thought and action by combining rigorous study of theoretical foundations, frameworks, and quantitative tools of marketing with exposure to actual managerial problems and necessary hands-on experience.  Because ours is one of the largest marketing departments in the country, we are able to offer, in addition to the core marketing classes, many specialized electives that allow students to create individualized programs catering to their specific interests.

Programs

The diversity of the marketing discipline and faculty experience, as well as current trends in the field, are reflected in the programs and areas in which we offer courses.

BBA Program in Marketing:

The BBA program is characterized by flexibility, specialization, and responsiveness to student needs.

  • We offer two specialized tracks, international marketing and advertising and marketing communication, as well as a general marketing track for those who prefer a broader based curriculum.

  • The Marketing major (comprising all three tracks) is the third most popular major in the school.

  • Unique to the advertising track is an Ad Competition course, in which our students compete with over 150 schools nationwide in an advertising campaign competition for a selected client. In 2006 the Baruch team won the regional championship with their campaign for Coca-Cola Classic and was one of 18 finalists that reached the national finals.

  • We frequently offer a Special Topics in Marketing course that introduces students to emerging trends and “hot” topics in the field.

  • Baruch College is the only business school in the New York tri-state area (and one of only a few business schools nationwide) with an undergraduate advertising track within the marketing major.

MBA and MS Programs:

The MBA and MS programs are characterized by analytical rigor and an emphasis on marketing decision making.

  • For the MBA in Marketing we offer a range of courses that allow students to focus on advertising, international marketing, or internet marketing.

  • An MBA in International Business is also awarded.  Cognizant of the globalization of business, we also provide MBA students with the option to double-major in International Business and in a second discipline.

  • Students who wish to concentrate exclusively on marketing are encouraged to enroll in the MS program, which is a shorter and more focused program than the MBA.  In the MS program students can choose from a focus on e-commerce, international marketing, advertising and marketing communication, or marketing research.

  • Additionally, our department offers Executive MS in Marketing programs in several international locations, including Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan.  Our faculty members also teach in Baruch’s Executive MBA program.

Doctoral Program:

The Ph.D. program in marketing is a five-year, full-time program that trains students to be successful marketing scholars and educators. The program takes a rigorous, flexible, multidisciplinary approach to help students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for productive careers at research-oriented academic institutions.  Our recent graduates have been placed in such institutions as the University of South Carolina, Fordham University, Penn State, the University of Manitoba, George Mason University.
