Adelsa is Baruch's second student to be accepted to this competitive program. Catherine Kuo was accepted in last year's (2011) Wheel Program.

Adelsa Figueroa accepted into CBRE’s Wheel Program.

The Wheel Program is a very competitive and highly selective program. This year was particularly competitive with over 600 applications for five spots in the program. The Wheel program allows individuals to rotate through and work in various departments where they are able to gain incredible exposure to, insight from, and experience in various and diverse lines of business within the commercial real estate industry from brokerage to consulting to investment sales. At the end of the program, individuals then have the opportunity to join the organization in an area that best suits their interests and skills while matching the company’s business needs.

In Adelsa's own words/her personal experience:

CBRE’s wheel program is a highly competitive program where individuals are granted the opportunity to work alongside industry leaders in an array of commercial real estate disciplines. This year, over 500 applicants applied nationwide for the five spots available for the New York City location. Given the competitive nature of this prestigious position, I knew I had to do my part to stand out against the other applicants. I spent countless hours researching the company and reaching out to my contacts for advice and guidance. The whole process from the first phone interview to the final round of interviews was a long enduring one. I was thrilled when I was invited to CBRE’s midtown offices for the final round of interviews and even more lost for words when I was offered a position. I feel Baruch’s real estate program provided me with a strong foundation and the knowledge I needed to prepare me for such opportunity. The invaluable experience I’ve gained in my internships at Lehman Brothers, Barclay’s Capital and Newmark Knight Frank left a lasting impression on my interviewers, which I feel helped me stand out even greater. I am excited to start my commercial real estate career with CBRE this coming September.

In Catherine’s own words/her personal experience:
After CBRE’s on-campus presentation, I knew that without a doubt, CBRE was the company I wanted to build a career with and the Wheel program was where I wanted to start. However, I also knew that it was a very competitive position to acquire, particularly in New York City, as countless individuals from across the U.S. applied for this position. This year was particularly competitive with over 600 applicants applying for the five spots of the Wheel Program. As such, I knew I really had to be on my toes if I wanted to get this position and immediately began doing more research about the company and the position on my own. Furthermore, I attended a second information session at CBRE’s midtown offices which they set up specifically for Baruch students. The entire process from the first phone interview to the third and final round in person lasted approximately four months with applicants getting cut during every round. I was extremely excited when I found out I had made it to the final round of interviews and completely ecstatic when I was offered a position. All in all, I believe that the knowledge I gained from my studies in the BBA – Real Estate program at Baruch, paired with my experience as President of the Undergraduate Real Estate Club really helped me stand out among the applicants. The networking opportunities, leadership experience, and insight I gained from my experiences with the Undergraduate Real Estate Club were particularly helpful and always a topic of interest throughout my interview discussions. I am looking forward to beginning the Wheel program in September and pursuing a successful career in commercial real estate with CBRE.
