Executive Master of Science in Computer Information Systems

Some of the faculty are:

Professor Albert Croker

Professor Croker is Chairman of the Computer Information Systems Department. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from State University of New York Stony Brook. His research and teaching interests include database management systems, relational database theory and temporal database theory. His teaching interests are in the areas of programming languages, operating systems, and systems development.

Professor Barry Dumas

dumas.jpgProfessor Dumas received his BA in math and English, BS in Industrial Engineering, MS in Operations Research, and PhD in Business, all from Columbia University. He has taught a wide variety of courses at all levels at NYU, Columbia, and Baruch, and chaired several doctoral theses. At Baruch he also directs the annual $100,000 entrepreneurship competition. He has worked in strategic planning at the hospital of the New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry and The Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, where he designed and implemented the first local area networks in the early 80s. His other interests range from data communication to philosophy of science.

Professor Bill Ferns

Bill FernsProfessor Ferns received his Ph.D. from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. His research interests focus on examining the diffusion of information technology (IT) in the non-profit sectors, particularly in the social services field, and the use of expert systems and other knowledge-amplifying technologies, particularly in the delivery of social services.

Professor Richard Holowczak

Professor Holowczak received his Ph.D and M.B.A in Information Systems from Rutgers University in New Jersey. His research interests focuses on digital libraries, electronic commerce and networked information systems. Professor Holowczak is also the Director of the Subotnick Financial Center at Baruch.

Professor Marios Koufaris

Professor Koufaris received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Stern School of Business of New York University, his B.Sc. in Decision Sciences from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include electronic commerce and specifically consumer behavior in web-based commerce, end user behavior, and the social impact of IT.

Professor Karl Reiner Lang

Karl Lang imageDr. Lang’s research interests include decision technologies, management of digital businesses, knowledge-based products and services, and issues related to the newly arising informational society. Dr. Lang holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently Professor in Information Systems at Baruch College in New York City. He has held previous positions at the Free University of Berlin in Germany and the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) in Hong Kong. He has also taught in the MBA program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In 1999, he was a visiting Professor at the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce (CREC) at the University of Texas at Austin. His findings have been published in such diverse journals as Communications of the ACM, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Computational Economics, and Annals of Operations Research. He is also Associate Editor of the journals Decision Support Systems and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications. Dr Lang has professional experience in Germany, Hong Kong, and the United States.

Professor Pai-Chun Ma

Prof. Pai-Chun MaProfessor Pai-chun Ma received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Stern School of Business of New York University, MBA from SUNY Buffalo, and B.Sc. in Management Science from National Chiao Tung University (Hsinchu, Taiwan). He has taught at U. of Delaware, Hong Kong U. of Science & Technology, NYU and Baruch. His research interests include data warehouse and OLAP, workflow management systems, information retrieval, and IT project management.

Professor Peter McAliney

Prof Peter McAlineyProfessor McAliney received his M.B.A. from the Zicklin School of Business. As a Chartered Management Consultant (CMC) and Project Management Professional (PMP), his consulting work focuses on the integration of technology, business processes, and organizations. He has led projects in a variety of industries including utilities, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and service companies.

Professor Kannan Mohan

Kannan Mohan imageKannan Mohan is an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Baruch College. He received his PhD in CIS from Georgia State University in 2003. His research interests include managing software product family development, providing traceability support for systems development, knowledge integration, and agile development methodologies. His work has appeared in journals such as Decision Support Systems, Communications of the ACM, Information & Management, and Communications of the AIS. He has taught several courses including systems analysis and design, introduction to information systems and technologies, end-user application development, and a Ph.D. seminar on systems development.

Professor Abdullah Tansel

Abdullah TanselAbdullah Uz Tansel received MS and PhD degrees from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara Turkey in 1974 and 1981, respectively. He also completed his MBA degree in the University of Southern California in 1976. Dr. Tansel joined Baruch College, the City University of New York in 1983 and is a professor of Computer Information Systems there. Professor Tansel headed the editorial board that published the first book on temporal databases in 1993. His research interests are database management systems, temporal databases and data mining. Dr. Tansel published many articles in the conferences and journals of ACM and IEEE Computer Society.
