Greenpoint/Williamsburg: Part Two
Part Two of the Greenpoint/Williamsburg conference on June 1, 2005 was called New Housing/New Communities — Implementing New Zoning and featured New York City Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum discussing the city’s plans for Brooklyn. There were also four academic teams from Rutgers University/New Jersey Institute of Technology, Yale University, New York University and Hunter College & City College, City University of New York with their own options for the area. The Rutgers team were aiming for creating more affordable housing and public access to the waterfront; NYU added to these concerns their demographic, fiscal and infrastructure analyses; Yale University’s “simulations” were about redefining sustainability and green space; and Hunter/City College’s Community on the Line strived to answer the question of what form the post-industrial landscape should take.
