Harlem in Our Eyes
Harlem in Our Eyes: Sustaining Cultural Legacy in a Rapidly Changing Neighborhood was a full-day symposium on February 24, 2006. It explored the intersection of new development with existing community. It’s title referred back to the landmark 1968 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum entitled “Harlem on My Mind: Cultural Capital of Black America, 1900-1968” in celebration of the work of Thomas Hoving, then director of the museum. The symposium addressed the Harlem of today as a center of New York real estate. Charles B. Rangel and former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields also were honored.
