Changing Streetscapes
Pergolis Urban Gallery Exhibition titled "Changing Streetscapes: New Architecture and Open Space in Harlem"
October 27, 2005 - January 6, 2006
Perhaps the goal of Changing Streetscapes: New Architecture and Open Space in Harlem is to document rather than comment on the many physical changes to Harlem’s streets and buildings. It is also meant to demonstrate how decisions made by lawmakers, developers, community boards and residents have shaped the area. The aerial and street photography, architectural drawings and printed pieces document the housing, commercial development, institutions and landscape over time. Ethan Cohen, one of the curators and director of the Architecture Center at City College, compared it with a family photo album “making cross-references to different areas and time.” The exhibit was built to look like a construction site to emphasize the ongoing development in Harlem.
Changing Streetscapes was first displayed at the City College Library Atrium from February 28 to June 30, 2005.
