The central obstacle to optimal West Side development is the blockage caused by the Javits Center in its current location. Expansion of the current Javits Center, building a Jets Stadium and the introduction of north/south commercial development between 10th and 11th Avenues will combine to weaken Hell's Kitchen as a neighborhood over the next 30 years. "Flipping" the Javits center from its existing site parallel to the river to a new site over the Hudson Yards railroad tracks and perpendicular to the river will create many new opportunities.
