Graduate Academic Services
Flex-Time MBA and MS Programs
Our Mission:
The mission of the Office of Graduate Academic Services is to ensure that students understand the curriculum and the academic policies related to their program and their academic standing. Professional staff provide comprehensive guidance and support to students so they can make informed decisions about their programs and achieve their academic goals. The Office works closely with academic departments and administrative offices throughout the College to help students successfully navigate the degree process.
Our Services
Most advising is informal and students can meet with staff and student advisors throughout the calendar year, either by appointment or on a walk-in basis (during registration advising is walk-in only). Although students are not assigned a faculty advisor, designated faculty members from each department see students on an individual basis throughout the academic year. Students are encouraged to seek advice if they have questions, and are responsible for understanding and meeting the requirements for their degree.
The Office of Graduate Academic Services:
- Evaluates preliminary course reqirements for entering students, reviews requests for transfer credit and core course substitutions, assists students who wish to change their major or degree objective.
- Advises on program planning, degree requirements, scholastic standing.
- Assists students with course scheduling and course selection and provides "express advising" prior to registration.
- Uses Baruch Web-mail and maintains a Blackboard site to keep students informed of academic policies, special events, program requirements, etc.
- Offers study skills workshops beginning in fall 2005.
- Advises students about appeals to the Graduate Committee on Academic Standing (GCAS), and coordinates the appeals process. Most students experience concerns about beginning a graduate program, balancing work with study, or acclimating to a new location. Sometimes students will encounter academic situations that need to be addressed by the GCAS.
