RE: One Stop Service

This August the Graduate Center is introducing a One Stop Service for the new cohort of scholarship students entering in 2009-10. The service will open following the usual set of new student orientation events which will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The One Stop Service will be conducted in the Concourse located on C level. The dates and times of operation are:

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. *
Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. *
Friday, August 21, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

*closed for lunch from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.

The purpose of the One Stop Service is to gather in a central locale key staff from various offices such as: Human Resources, Provost, Registrar, International Students,
Student Services, Bursar, Payroll, and Financial Aid. Experts from these offices will be available to provide information to new students and to answer “how to” questions about important information including:

  • Enrolling in NYSHIP (student health insurance), its benefits and who is eligible
  • How to get on the payroll for Graduate Assistantships, including H.R. orientations, when students may expect to be paid, receiving and returning appointment letters, fellowship service requirement and assignments.
  • How international students acquire a social security card.
  • Understanding a 5 Year Financial Aid Package.
  • How to apply for a student loan or a financial advance.
  • Benefits of the Wellness Center and related services.
  • Issues related to registration.
  • How to establish New York State residency.
