Bootcamp is a series of skills refresher workshops required for incoming students in the Executive MBA and the Executive MS in Finance programs.
2014 Orientation and Bootcamp schedule:
August 1: New Executive student orientation reception at Baruch College (evening)
August 2-3: Orientation continues off-campus
August 4-23: Bootcamp; some weeknights (6-9pm) and some Saturdays (8:30am-5:30pm)
Bootcamp reviews basic concepts and skills in accounting, finance and statistics, so that students can get off to a running start in the program. For students with a non-business undergraduate education or background, Bootcamp serves to fill an important gap in their skill set. Students with a business education or background also find the Bootcamp experience valuable because it serves as a refresher for concepts they may have learned long ago and forgotten since.
Bootcamp also helps to start the process of reactivating students' classroom learning skills and serves as a stepping stone to the full Executive Program experience.
Bootcamp is mandatory for all incoming students in the Executive MBA and Executive MS in Finance programs, and its cost is included in the program fee. There is an assessment for each module that is also mandatory. The assessment allows students to determine their strengths and weaknesses with respect to the material, and helps the program's Academic Director identify areas where the students might need additional help.
Bootcamp runs for three weeks, with workshop sessions being held on weeknights and on Saturdays. A typical weekly Bootcamp schedule would be as follows (however, the actual schedule may be different each year):
- Tuesday: (6 - 9 pm) Accounting
- Thursday: (6 -9 pm) Finance
- (8:30 -11 am) Statistics
- (11:15 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm) Accounting
- (3 - 5:30 pm) Finance
Meals are provided on class days.
