Boot Camp is a series of skills refresher workshops required for incoming students in the Executive MBA and the Executive MS in Finance programs. Boot Camp helps start the process of reactivating students' classroom learning skills and serves as a stepping stone to the full Executive Education experience. Students report that the experience helps them transition back to school and prepares them for the intense nature of Executive Education.
2016 Boot Camp Schedule
Late July 2016: Boot Camp begins
In Boot Camp, instructors review basic concepts and skills in accounting, finance, statistics, and Excel. For students with a non-business undergraduate education or background, Boot Camp fills an important gap in their skill set. Students with a business education or background also find the Boot Camp experience valuable because it serves as a refresher for concepts they may have learned long ago and since forgotten.
Boot Camp is mandatory for all incoming students in the Executive MBA and Executive MS in Finance programs, and its cost is included in the program fee. There is an assessment for each module that is also mandatory. The assessment allows students to determine their strengths and weaknesses with respect to the material, and helps the program's Academic Director identify areas where the students might need additional help.
Boot Camp runs for three weeks, with workshop sessions being held on weeknights and on Saturdays. A typical weekly Boot Camp schedule would be as follows (however, the actual schedule may be different each year):
- Tuesday: (6 - 9 pm) Accounting
- Thursday: (6 -9 pm) Finance
- (8:30 -11 am) Statistics
- (11:15 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm) Accounting
- (3 - 5:30 pm) Finance
Meals are provided on class days.
