Core APT Program and Preliminary Requirements

Preliminary Course Requirements and Waiver Guidelines

In addition to the normal degree requirements for the MBA program, certain preliminary courses are required for all students who have not had sufficient preparation prior to entering the Zicklin School. Those with adequate preparation in these preliminary course areas are waived from such requirements. Grades in 8000-level preliminary courses are not applied toward the MBA degree. Preliminary courses are available during summer session; selected preliminary courses are also available during the academic year. Preliminary courses that are prerequisites to other courses must be taken in the appropriate sequence and as early as possible in the program.

The Curriculum

During the first year, students take their courses in APT dedicated sections developed specifically for this program. In the fall and spring semesters, three courses are taken: two meet twice a week in the evenings and the third meets Saturdays (see a sample schedule). January and summer session classes are held in the evenings. Program participants must enroll in all of the APT dedicated sections offered for them and must complete the program according to this schedule to remain participants. Students may not move into the program once they have begun study at Baruch. A student must begin as an APT student;however, a student may move out of the program if the commitment to the program becomes overly difficult.

Due to the 150-credit hour program requirements, APT students are unable to major in Accountancy.

The Cost

Students in the Accelerated Program pay the same tuition as students in the Flex-Time program.

The following chart illustrates tuition payments.  For complete tuition and fees information, please see the following: Tuition and Fees

Cost per semester:
In State Tuition:$400 x 9 credits$3,600.00
Out of State Tuition: $600 x 9 credits$5,400.00

Total Program Cost:
In State$400 x 57 credits$22,800
Out of State$600 x 57 credits $34,200

The Challenge

Prospective applicants should keep in mind that this program is highly intensive and academically challenging because it is completed in just over 2 years. Taking courses with the same cohort of students will definitely help, and academic advising and monitoring are provided. However, students considering this program must be prepared to give it the high priority and considerable effort its intensity will require.

Admissions

The deadline for APT applicants is May 31. Applicants for this program use the same forms and procedures as any Zicklin MBA applicant and admission is based on the same selection criteria.

Typical Course Schedule

Courses in bold must be taken with the Accelerated MBA cohort. All other courses are taken in the terms scheduled, but may be selected from all the sections available to Flex-Time students that term. "(Flex-Time)" indicates that a course may be open to students from those programs. The hours and evenings for all classes other than the core are based on departmental offerings.
