Undergraduate Permission System - Summer 2009

Dear Students:

Thank you for your interest in the Zicklin School of Business. I know that many of you have chosen to attend Baruch in order to earn a BBA degree. We at the Zicklin undergraduate program have created this permission request website in order to be responsive to Baruch students and their academic needs. As Associate Dean at the Zicklin School of Business I oversee all undergraduate business programs and services in the Zicklin School. My responsibilities include ensuring that our BBA programs meet the prescribed standards of our accrediting body, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International, assuring that our programs provide an excellent education, and guaranteeing that students in our business classes are prepared for and profit from those classes.

If you are planning to major in one of the Zicklin disciplines, there are several important things that you need to know.

  • Permission to take business courses will not be granted to non-degree students or those enrolled in Eng 0132 or CSTM 0120.
  • The pre-business core consists of eight courses and has a minimum GPA requirement. Two other preparatory courses (either Com 1010 or Eng 2150 and Bus 1000) are required also. This program was designed to prepare Baruch students for coursework in the Zicklin School. Please acquaint yourself with these requirements (http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/programs/undergrad/entrance.html). You will need a minimum 2.25 GPA in the eight courses in order to be accepted into a Zicklin major. Also, you must have earned a minimum of 45 credits toward your degree. Your GPA on all courses taken at Baruch must be at least 2.25.
  • Temporary permission ( i.e., a temporary ZK code) to take Zicklin upper division (3000-level) courses in Summer 2009 will be given to students who are completing their pre-business courses in Spring 2009, and have completed a minimum of 45 credits with a 2.4 GPA overall and a 2.4 GPA in the pre-business core.  Permission is granted for one semester only, and is not renewable.  If you are finishing your last pre-business courses this Spring, and wish a temporary ZK code, please complete the appropriate form.  Students who are given temporary ZK codes should be sure to register for a balanced schedule for summer 2009.
  • If you are finishing the pre-business core in Spring 2009, you also must be sure to complete the online eligibility form for your major.  Your application will be processed by mid-June 2009 (http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/application/review.jsp). You will not have an official major and Tier III minor until you have completed this form and have received notification of your acceptance.  If you do not meet the stated criteria, you will not be permitted to take other 3000- level Zicklin courses until those criteria have been met and you are accepted into a Zicklin major.
  • It is necessary for you to read the schedule of classes online and check pre-and co-requisites for each course carefully.
  • Please make certain you are aware of the CUNY F-repeat policy. No more than 16 credits of F can be replaced in your entire CUNY career. You may replace an F grade only if you receive a grade of C or higher when retaking the course.
  • If your GPA is below 2.4, please see us after May 27, 2009 if looking for summer I, 2009 permission.
  • If you have other questions or requests that are not covered here, please send us an email at zicklin_undergraduate@baruch.cuny.edu, or come visit us.
  • If a class you are seeking is closed, you must place your name on the waiting list. We will do our best to create more seats.

On behalf of the staff in the Zicklin Undergraduate Office, we wish you well in your educational endeavors.

Best regards,
Phyllis Zadra
Associate Dean
Zicklin School of Business
