Career Management Curriculum

CMC Workshop Information

 

The Career Management Curriculum (CMC) is a series of four workshops that are designed to assist you in mastering the core competencies required for success in the career management process.  Workshops cover topics including planning a successful job search campaign, writing effective resumes and cover letters, interviewing successfully, and negotiating offers and compensation. 

Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their Career Advisor for assistance in defining and executing on their goals. In order to receive maximum benefit from individual appointments, students are expected to be prepared by utilizing the strategies, tools, and exercises provided during the Career Management Curriculum. 

Advanced registration is required through Zicklin CareerLink, under “Calendar” as space is limited.

  • In some cases there will be pre-assignments for the workshops, be sure to read the workshop descriptions carefully when you register.
  • Workshops with low registration are subject to cancellation. 

Recruiting 101 **

The career management process, as it applies to MBA/MS students is defined and discussed. The process starts with self-assessment by investigating one's interests, skills, values as they relate to both career choice and the job search process. This workshop will prepare you for what recruiting means at Zicklin both on and off campus. **This workshop is REQUIRED for students who are planning to participate in the On-Campus Recruiting Program (OCR) for both full-time and internship opportunities. **


Resumes, Cover Letters, and Thank You Letters

Techniques for writing effective, results-oriented resumes, cover letters, and thank you letters are reviewed. Exercises are incorporated to stimulate thinking about personal and professional accomplishments. Emphasis is placed on improving resumes and cover letters to better reflect one’s achievements as they relate to one’s career goals. Sample resumes and letters are provided. You must bring your resume, a cover letter draft and the corresponding job description to this workshop. 

Job Search Skills and Relationship Building  

Various strategies to be used when searching for both internships and full-time positions are discussed, with emphasis placed on networking. Tips and guidelines for comfortable, appropriate, and successful networking approaches are reviewed. An interactive exercise helps put these techniques into action. 

Interviewing Strategies

Improve your chances of landing a job by learning valuable tips and strategies for successful interviewing. This session reviews behavioral interviewing the most common form of interviewing used in business today and provides an opportunity to practice behavioral interviewing skills. Guidelines for interview preparation are reviewed, including commonly asked questions and mistakes to avoid.
