Zicklin Alumni Partnership Program

Zicklin Alumni Partnership Program

The Graduate Career Management Center is pleased to announce the Zicklin Alumni Partnership Program.  This new program offers you the opportunity to connect with alumni who have volunteered to share their experiences and impart career-related advice to Zicklin graduate students.

Who is eligible to participate in this Program?

All current Zicklin graduate students are eligible to participate.

How do I get started with this Program?

Schedule an appointment with your Career Advisor. If you don’t yet have a Career Advisor but have completed the Curriculum, you may schedule an appointment with any advisor by calling (646) 312-1330.  If you have not completed the Curriculum, click here for more information and the upcoming schedule:

You must bring the following to this appointment:

  • A draft of the email you would send to a prospective Alumni Partner.  Click here to view sample networking correspondence: http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/services/students/resume.html
  • The profile of two Alumni Partners whom you would like to contact.  More information on locating Alumni Partner profiles is below.

How do I access an Alumni Partner?

  • Login to eRecruiting and use the Mentor Module to search the profiles of the Alumni Partners registered with this program.
  • Select the Alumni Partner whom you wish to contact and bring his/her profile to your advising appointment.
  • At your appointment, you and your Career Advisor will discuss appropriate next steps.
  • You will have one month to contact the Alumni Partner you selected. You must contact the Alumni Partner within the given month, in order to maintain your access to the Alumni Partnership Program.

Who are the Alumni Partners who participate in the Program?

The Alumni Partners are a diverse group who have dedicated their time to contribute to the career development of Zicklin students.  They represent both recent graduates and experienced professionals from a variety of fields.

How can an Alumni Partner help me?

An Alumni Partner can help you:

  • Learn about an industry and/or organization
  • Gain insight into the day-to-day work of a professional in your field of interest
  • Obtain information that may help you define your career goals
  • Receive advice on all career management issues such as job search strategies, networking and interviewing
  • Understand the relevance of your academic studies to the business world
  • Learn about different resources that can help you define and achieve your career goals

Is this program designed to get me a job?

No! The Zicklin Alumni Partnership Program is not an employment service.  The Program is designed for you to gain information and real world exposure to alumni in industries and functions of interest to you.

Inquiring about job opportunities prior to establishing a solid professional relationship is inappropriate.

What makes a good Student Partner?

  • Conduct appropriate research and prepare questions prior to reaching out to or meeting with the Alumni Partner.  Click here for a list of informational interview questions: http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/services/students/resume.html
  • Ensure all communication with the Alumni Partner is professional.
  • Understand that the Alumni Partner’s schedule may prevent him/her from responding to you immediately or being available at the time or in the mode that you desire.
  • Be flexible when scheduling time to meet. Remember that Alumni Partners are busy professionals who are donating their time to help you.
  • Respect that some communication with your Alumni Partner may be professionally sensitive and should be held in confidence.

What is the time commitment?

Alumni Partners are volunteers and they determine the amount of time they can commit to this program.
