Some of Our Recent Successes

Here are some of our recent successes:

 

  • ACG Cup: acg1.jpgBaruch keeps stepping up its success! In 2011 a team of Baruch MBA students won first place in the NY region’s mergers and acquisition competition sponsored by the Association of Corporate Growth (ACG) besting schools such as NYU and Cornell. Baruch first participated in the ACG cup competition in 2009 and came in third place. In 2010 Baruch improved its standing by coming in second place in that year's ACG cup competition beating schools such as Cornell and Fordham.
  • In 2011 students from the Baruch College/ Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Graduate MBA Program in Health Care Administration topped 28 other national graduate schools in its first participation in the fifth annual Health Administration Case Competition conducted by University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Health Services Administration.
  • Reaching Out: Baruch students were nationally triumphant in the 2010 Reaching Out MBA Case Writing Competition; the Baruch students’ case was subsequently published by the European Case Clearing House (ECCH). A two -person team consisting of Leslie Mackrell and Eric Pliner, Zicklin MBA students, beat out schools such as Harvard Business School and Columbia University Business School. Reaching Out is an organization that promotes networking, visibility, and the educational capabilities of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) business students, many of whom will become future business leaders.
  • In 2011 15 students from Baruch finished in the top 20 spots, including first and third place, in Penn State’s 2011 Smeal College of Business Trading Strategy Competition. The competition was entered by 166 students from 22 universities.
  • Collegiate ECHO Awards: Zicklin graduate teams won both Silver and Bronze awards from the Direct Marketing Education Foundation (DMEF). We are extremely proud to say that since the inception of the ECHO awards, Baruch has won more awards than any other college!
  • Baruch College Invitational Entrepreneurship Competition: Renaissance, a team of Zicklin students from the Honors MBA Class of 2010 was awarded first-prize in the “social track” of this expanded competition. Team members, Cindy Chang, Sayaka Eto, Ashok Kamal, Kevin Ng, and Varun Vummidi received $10,000 prize money and were allotted seed money contingent upon successful launch their new business idea.
  • Executive Leadership Council Competition: In 2008 a team of 5 graduate students placed first in this national competition sponsored by Shell Oil. It was a true test of multi-tasking using teambuilding, leadership and communication skills to insure success. The winning team members: Rory Christian, Nicole Daignault-O’Malley, Cameca Johnson, Alexander Keel, and Sonya Spencer Rocvil each won $4,000 in scholarship money!
  • Wal-Mart Better Living Business Plan: Co-sponsored by Net Impact this national competition involves 40 top business schools from across the country. The Renaissance team competed head-to-head against Wharton, University of Virginia, and Howard University (the host school). The team developed a business plan to make fashionable, innovative products out of recycled materials. The first prototype product is a children's backpack made from recycled plastic bottles. Despite being bested by the University of VA, the Zicklin students were deemed runner-up for the regional round and offered the opportunity to meet with Wal-Mart officials to discuss future possibilities for the proposed company.
  • Microsoft Advertising Digital Challenge: Created by a Baruch College alumnus, in 2008 Baruch College was represented by several teams consisting of both undergraduate and graduate students. Baruch graduate teams won 2nd place, 3rd place and finalist awards. An undergraduate joint Baruch/Fordham team won a finalist award.
