If you do not fall into one of these registration categories, register for any preliminary courses your evaluation states. Additional courses will be selected from the required sections of the curriculum.
* BUS 9551 is offered every semester it is highly recommended to register for the course within your first two semesters.
Important Notes:
- In order to navigate through the MS Financial Risk Management program smoothly, all prerequisite courses must be completed first.
- International students need to be registered for 9 credits in Fall and Spring to be considered full-time.
- Part-time students typically take 6 credits per semester.
- Preliminary courses are offered every Fall and Spring (with the exception of ECO 9740 which is sometimes offered in Fall only).
- FIN 9783: Investment Analysis and ECO 9723: Econometrics are typically offered every Fall and Spring.
- All other required courses are offered in either Fall or Spring.
- FIN 9783, ECO 9723, and FIN 9781 (elective option), serve as the prerequisites for many advanced electives.
- Students should plan to complete BUS 9551: Business Communication I within their first two semesters.
- BUS 9551 is offered every Fall, Spring, and Summer.
- Elective Courses are typically offered once per year (either in Fall, Spring, or Summer).
- Only the department can grant permission to students to register for a course(s) without having the prerequisite.
Waiver Criteria for Preliminary Courses
Students with appropriate academic background will be able to reduce the number of credits in preliminary requirements.

Waiver Criteria for Preliminary requirements
- Students may be waived from preliminary requirements based on prior coursework from a regionally accredited institution. Students must meet both the letter grade and time limit requirements.
- You will receive an individualized email from the MS Program Office indicating which courses you have been waived from/are required to complete. The preliminary courses are prerequisites for many of the required courses in the MS FIN and MS FRM programs.
- Please note that the Certified Financial Analyst® (CFA) charter is not sufficient to waive preliminary requirements.
