MS Information Systems Course Recommendations

Course Planning Information

  • The required information system core courses are the same for all Information Systems concentrations and are generally offered every Fall/Spring semester. 

 

    • CIS 9000: Information Technology Strategy
    • CIS 9340: Principles of Database Management Systems
    • CIS 9490: Systems Analysis and Design
    • CIS 9590: Information Systems Development Project

 

Important Course Sequencing Information:

  • CIS 9490: Systems Analysis and Design has a prerequisite of CIS 9340
    • Students aiming to graduate in three semesters should take CIS 9490 in their second semester to be prepared for the capstone course CIS 9590 in their third semester.

 

  • CIS 9590: Information Systems Development Project is the required capstone course and is completed later in the program.
    • The pre-requisites are CIS 9340 and CIS 9490.
    • CIS 9490 and CIS 9590 are a two-course sequence; therefore, they cannot be taken concurrently.
    • Plan your registration for CIS 9590 based on your expected date of graduation.

 

  • Students can begin taking concentration and/or elective courses as long as the prerequisite(s) are met.

 

  • As part of their electives, students can take up to 6 credits of 9000-level courses from the graduate offerings of the Zicklin School of Business.
    • Students may take up to 3 credits of internship (BUS 9801-9803 or BUS 9811-9813) toward their business electives.
