- All MS/MBA program students (except MS Accountancy) are strongly recommended to use DegreeWorks to track progress towards degree completion.
- Due to high customization of possible course waivers, MS Accountancy students should not rely on DegreeWorks and should refer to individual program of study (POS) issued at the time matriculated into Baruch.
What is DegreeWorks?
- Degree planning tool designed to help students monitor progress to track degree progress, to prepare for registration, and to plan for graduation.
- Matches the degree requirements stated in the Baruch Bulletin (by academic year based on entry or re-entry to Baruch)
- Empowers students to be track their own degree progress
General Degree Audit Structure
The DegreeWorks audit is divided into several sections, called “blocks”, which together comprise the degree audit.
- Degree Requirements – summary of the degree requirements as well as the overall credits required to graduate
- Preliminary Course(s) – list of preliminary courses
- Program Requirements – section lists the specific courses that are required to complete the program.
- Concentration Requirements (if applicable) – section lists the specific courses that are required to complete the concentration.
- Elective Courses Allowed / Elective Courses Not Allowed
- Insufficient/Non-Contributing Grades and Pending Permit Courses
- In-Progress Courses
- Notes
Helpful Tips
- By default, the degree audit is set at Student View. However, you can toggle to the Registration Checklist to only show those requirements that are unmet.
- CREDITS APPLIED = credits completed + registered in-progress courses
- TOTAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS = minimum number of credits to earn degree + required preliminary courses
- Preliminary courses do not count towards the minimum number of credits needed to earn the degree.
- DEPT 9000:9999 = any 9000-level course in DEPT department (e.g. MKT)
Pre-Graduation Completion
Degree Progress Bar
|
What this means…
|
~90% [± 2%]
|
- After enrolling in your final semester courses, while in pre-graduation completion, the highest your degree progress requirements section will reach is about 90%.
- Note that this number differs based on program since the percentage is based on the number of requirements completed in the degree audit.
- All other sections on your degree audit should show complete or in-progress except for Applied for Graduation
|
Anything less than 90%
|
- You likely have requirements missing (e.g. missing requirements, missing credits, GPA < 3.0, etc.).
- Review your degree audit carefully to ensure that all other requirements have been satisfied [see Common Issues below].
|
90+%
|
- After you have applied for graduation in your final semester, the degree audit will gradually increase to 100% as you move through the graduation process (graduation audit is processed, requirements met with final courses in progress, grades in final semester are posted) and your degree is conferred.

What If Function
- What If is used for advisory purposes and not considered official.
- Use the What If function for future course planning
- Select “Use current curriculum”.
- Add the subject and number (e.g. FIN 9778) of the course(s) and Process New.
- DegreeWorks will show how the future courses planned will count in your current degree requirements.
- Change of Degree Objective or change concentrations
- Consult with the advising team.
- Use the following criteria to see how your completed and enrolled courses will count in a different degree program or concentration / track:
- Program Catalog Year (e.g. 2023-2024 Graduate for Fall 2023) and Degree (MS/MBA)
- Major* (required) and Concentration (if needed), using same catalog year as program
- OPTIONAL: Select “Use current curriculum” to see how the future planned courses will count in a program or concentration change.
- EXAMPLE:
- Note that program advisors cannot advise you on programs you have not been admitted into.
Common Issues
- MBA students who entered prior to Fall 2023 and have returned aftter a leave of absence will need to contact the advising team to rectify their DegreeWorks to reflect their original admit term.
- Course was added [or dropped], but does not appear [still appears] on degree audit
- Check when the audit was last updated.
- DegreeWorks does not instantaneously update after a CUNYfirst registration action is processed. It usually takes 24-48 hours to update.
- CONC requirements are required but were not found
- For MS students, a concentration / track / sub-plan is required for your program but it is either not declared or incorrect.
- For MBA students, a concentration is not required as students are following the General or Accountancy curriculum only. When all electives are completed the concentration will show as fulfilled.
- Course appears in either “Electives” or “Elective Courses Not Allowed”
- Courses that appear in “Elective Courses Not Allowed” do not satisfy a degree requirement for your program, but still counts towards your GPA.
- Courses that appear in “Elective Courses Not Allowed” affect financial aid.
- If the course should serve as a possible course substitution, please follow up with the advising team.
- If the substituion required faculty approval, please forward the approval from the faculty advisor to the advising team.
- A final grade must be posted before a course substitution can be applied.
- If the course is a business elective, check if you have exceeded the number of credits (e.g. max 6 credits of business electives, internship credits, transfer credits, etc.).
- For MBA students to fulfill elective requirements, students are allowed to take ONE graduate 3-credit course outside of Zicklin at either the Weissman School or the Marxe School. Students should email the advising team to request the substitution.
