SUMMARY:Accountability in Accounting: The Lasting Impact of Baruch Alum and Longtime Professor\, Abe Briloff
DESCRIPTION:A Lunchtime Chat with Charlie Dreifus\, Royce Investment Partners\n\nAbout the Program\nAbe Briloff was one of Baruch College’s most distinguished alumni. A maverick in a profession known for its resistance to change\, as a professor\, writer and practitioner\, Abe continually questioned the conventional wisdom on Wall Street and became “the conscience of the accounting profession.” The Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity is pleased to welcome Abe’s former student and friend Charlie Dreifus for a discussion of how Abe fought to guarantee higher standards of transparency and ethical conduct in the financial and accounting industries. He will be joined by Chair of the Stan Ross Department of Accountancy\, Dr. Donal Byard.   \n  \n\nAbout the Speakers\n  \nCHARLIE R. DREIFUS\, CFA Portfolio Manager\, Managing Director at Royce Investment Partners \nCharlie Dreifus manages the firm’s Special Equity mutual funds that attempt to combine classic value analysis\, the identification of good businesses\, and accounting cynicism. In 2008\, he was named Morningstar’s Domestic-Stock Fund Manager of the Year. \nPrior to joining Royce in 1998\, Mr. Dreifus was a General Partner and Managing Director and a Limited Managing Director of Lazard Freres & Co.\, LLC. He was also the Portfolio Manager of Lazard Special Equity Portfolio\, formerly Lazard Special Equity Fund and Special Equity separate accounts. Prior to that\, he was employed by Oppenheimer & Co. as a Limited Partner and as the manager of Quest For Value Fund (from May 1980 to November 1982) and by Oppenheimer Capital as an Executive Vice President. \nMr. Dreifus holds a bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York/Baruch School and a Masters of Business Administration from Baruch College. He is a CFA® charterholder. \n\nDr. DONAL BYARD\, Chair of Stan Ross Department of Accountancy at the Zicklin School of Business \n \nDr. Byard was an academic fellow at the SEC from 2008 to 2009.  Dr. Byard’s research focuses on the activities of financial analysts as information intermediaries in capital markets\, and international accounting standards. His research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals\, including: the Journal of Accounting Research\, The Accounting Review\, Contemporary Accounting Research\, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy\, and Accounting Horizons. Dr. Byard served on the editorial board of a number of journals\, including: the Journal of International Business Studies\, Accounting Horizons\, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy\, and the Journal of Business\, Finance and Accounting.  \nDonal received his BBS in Accounting at the University of Limerick\, Ireland\, MBS in Finance at University College Dublin\, and PhD in Accounting at University of Maryland. \n\nSchedule:\n12:00 pm – Registration and Lunch  \n12:30 pm – Presentation \n\nRegistration:\nComplimentary registration is required to attend this program.
