Big Tech Platforms: Bastions of Free Speech or Self-Appointed Censors?

April 8, 2021 at 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Big Tech Platforms such as Google, Facebook and Twitter have been in the spotlight recently regarding a range of policy issues at the intersection of technology, free speech and competition.

The Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics presents a panel discussion where industry experts will explore the potentially intractable issues as well as trade-offs surrounding platform competition, misinformation and free speech. The panel event will delve into the nuances involved in these issues, demystify some of the terms often used (such as Section 230), as well as discuss policy proposals, such as potential changes to antitrust laws.
