About the Program: 

The Climate Action Workshop will provide attendees with an interactive experience where they can learn about the climate system and the effectiveness of different climate change mitigation solutions in driving down temperature, through a discussion grounded in science.  The session makes use of the En-ROADS model, developed by Climate Interactive, which uses system dynamics modeling and the latest climate and economic data to enable participants to develop their own ‘2 degree’ scenarios.  Participants will be able to challenge their own assumptions about what works, and come away with key insights about climate change mitigation that they can take forward in their professions.  The dialogue will also incorporate ‘multi-solving,’ to explore how environmental solutions can also address issues of social inequity and health, and create jobs.

Climate Interactive is an independent, not-for-profit think-tank that grew out of MIT Sloan in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Based on a long tradition of system dynamics modeling, Climate Interactive’s simulations and insights help people see connections, play out scenarios, and see what works to address climate change, inequity, and related issues like energy, health, and food.  HSBC provides philanthropic funding to Climate Interactive, and actively supports its strategy of expanding the En-ROADS facilitator pool and the reach of Climate Interactive’s tools in the corporate world.

About the Speaker: 

Andrew Greenspan is a sustainability professional in the financial services industry with focus on sustainable operations and sustainability risk. He has a passion for implementing solutions that reduce environmental impact and engaging and training employees and partners on the opportunities and risks relating to action (or inaction!) on climate change. His successes and interests are global. He first had his sustainability ‘spark’ in 2015 when he was knee deep in mud in the Mai Po marshes in Hong Kong, testing the soil for carbon content. The scientists at Hong Kong University lectured that evening about the important ecosystem services that mangrove forests provide. He has been excited about environmental solutions, both natural and technological, ever since. He received a Master’s degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University.

The Subotnick Financial Services Center was dedicated on March 28, 2000, with regular use of the Center starting in the Fall 2000 semester.
