As the perceived pinnacle of business education worldwide, the school’s approach has been wisely studied and widely imitated. But despite the well-deserved plaudits that form the cornerstone of its reputation, journalist Duff McDonald argues that the school’s most significant influences are ones that get the least attention.
Drawing from the research behind his bestselling book, “The Golden Passport”, McDonald traces the roots of the philosophical shifts that changed Harvard’s Business School’s trajectory, and demonstrates how the combination of unintended consequences and inadvertent influence has reverberated throughout American – and global – business to this very day.
About the Speaker
Duff McDonald is a New York-based journalist and author. He has written for Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, New York, Esquire, Fortune, Business Week, Conde Nast Portfolio, GQ, WIRED, Time, Newsweek, and others. His latest book, The Golden Passport: Harvard Business School, the Limits of Capitalism, and the Moral Failure of the MBA Elite, was published by Harper Business in April 2017.
His previous books include The Firm: The Story of McKinsey and Its Secret Influence on American Business (Simon & Schuster, 2013) and Last Man Standing, a biography of Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase (S&S, 2009). He is also the co-author, with Owen Burke, of The CEO, a satire. He splits his time between Brooklyn and the Catskills. He has one daughter (Marguerite) and two cats (Corey Feldman and Stevie Wonder).
