SUMMARY:Technology Nudges for Good (?)
DESCRIPTION:About the Program: \nHow can we become better? Many tech startups embrace this question and strive to make us better: better parents\, better students\, better eaters\, better athletes\, and more. To do this\, these companies capitalize on behavioral research and use design choices to nudge us towards becoming a better us. But what is “better”? Are those nudges effective? To what extent do we remain autonomous when our decisions are driven by behavioral nudges?  \nTo discuss these questions and more\, the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity will host Yael Hallak\, a habit formation researcher.   \n\nSpeakers:\nModerated by Yafit Lev-Aretz\, Assistant Professor of Law at Zicklin School of Business\, Baruch College  \n\nYael Hallak \nYael Hallak (MA in Social Psychology\, CBT Post Master Certificate\, NYU) is a researcher in the field of habit formation\, trying to get a better understanding of the gap between the person we desire to be and the one we actually are. She has years of experience\, working with governments and startups\, and in personal counseling.  \n  \n\n  \n\nTech Ethics at the Robert Zicklin Center for Corporate Integrity:\nProfessor Yafit Lev-Aretz is the Director of the Robert Zicklin Center’s Program on Tech Ethics. Tech Ethics examines the ethical dilemmas associated with the various technology applications\, including in the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data. The tech ethics program is designed to increase awareness of such ethical dilemmas and foster a conversation on the positive and negative impacts of technology. The program also aims to equip future leaders with the insights and perspectives needed to make complex decisions about the use of technology in business and society. \nProfessor Lev-Aretz is a tech policy expert\, researching the fascinating relationship between the law\, technology\, and society.  She has written about information privacy\, the growing use of algorithmic decision-making\, intrusive means of news dissemination\, choice architecture in the age of big data\, and the ethical challenges posed by machine learning and artificially intelligent systems. Additionally\, her research highlights the legal treatment of beneficial uses of data\, such as data philanthropy and the data for good movement\, striving to strike a delicate balance between solid privacy protections and competing values. \n\nSchedule:\n12:30 pm – Program begins \n2:00 pm – Program concludes \n\nRegistration:\nComplimentary pre-registration is required to attend this program. Please register online via Zoom.
