The Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute Advisory Board is comprised of top leaders in the real estate industry. Through the related William Newman Department of Real Estate, degree students have the opportunity to meet members of the Advisory Board through networking events such as the Advisory Board Speaker Series and Mentor for the Day programs.
As part of this series, members of the William Newman Department of Real Estate Advisory Board give lectures on the state of the market and answer student questions. This is a great way for real estate students to meet face-to-face with important figures in the industry.

The Department’s Advisory Board Mentor for the Day Program exposes students to career paths in the real estate industry and provides networking opportunities. By being matched with various executives in the industry, students learn about the mentor’s company and job opportunities that that particular type of company provides.
Students spend the day shadowing members of the Advisory Board and learning about the skills needed in the real estate industry. Students observe their mentors’ daily work activities and meet executives in other departments throughout the day.
The Department held an Advisory Board Mentor for the Day event on May 6, 2016.

“When I told my mentor that I am interested in research, he introduced me to his colleagues on CBRE’s research team. They told me more about their work and what makes a good report. I really appreciate this opportunity.”

“My discussion with my mentor gave me insight and clarity on the career path I would best enjoy. He also showed me around some of the office buildings in NYC that Time Equities owns and operates. This is a great program and I got a lot out of it.”

“The Mentor for the Day program will prove to be a vital part of the learning and professional development process that makes the Baruch Real Estate program one of the best. I hope that future Baruch College real estate students have the same opportunity.”
