Zicklin Professor Honored by U.S. Department of Commerce

May 18, 2021
As director of the Weissman Center for International Business at the Zicklin School, Dr. Terrence F. Martell has been promoting international business as an educator for decades. This is just one reason the U.S. Department of Commerce recently recognized him for his efforts to help small businesses in the New York metropolitan region succeed in the global marketplace.

Dr. Martell received the award on May 4 at a virtual ceremony that featured an introductory message by Gina Raimondo, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce for the Biden Administration. The ceremony was part of World Trade Week NYC, an annual event Dr. Martell has spearheaded for the past 16 years as a member of the New York District Export Council (NYDEC), a nonprofit group of international trade professionals appointed by the Department of Commerce to promote U.S. exports.

Dr. Martell has developed innovative curricula at the Zicklin School for both undergraduates and graduate students studying international business — curricula that supports the needs of local companies and small businesses that operate internationally.

“Dr. Martell has tremendous business experience and is very knowledgeable about finance and many other subjects,” noted Lene Skou, deputy director of the Weissman Center. “His high level of experience and engagement not only ensures his success, but also makes everyone involved proud to be a part of his efforts.”
