Zicklin Professors Are Among Top Researchers in World, Says New Study
December 30, 2020A study led by a Stanford professor that names the top researchers in the world has included seven Zicklin School of Business professors as being among the top two percent in their respective fields.
In alphabetical order, the professors named were Raquel Benbunan-Fich (Information Systems), T. K. Das (Management), Theodore Joyce (Economics), Marios Koufaris (Information Systems), Hannah Rothstein (Management), Sankar Sen (Marketing), and Tony Tinker (Accounting).
The complete list, published in the journal PLOS Biology, is comprehensive and multidisciplinary, encompassing more than eight million researchers across 174 fields. It is based on citations pulled from the well-known SCOPUS citation database between the years 1960 and 2019.
“It is a particular honor to represent Baruch on this list,” said Professor Sankar Sen when learning of his inclusion in the top two percent. He added that a paper he published 20 years ago was probably a key contributor to his 156th-place ranking out of 10,464 researchers in marketing: “It was one of the first in the field to examine the consumer response to corporate social responsibility programs,” he offered. “It’s been cited over 5,000 times.”
Professor Marios Koufaris said he was “proud” of his 214th-place ranking (out of 16,581 researchers in information systems), yet “uncomfortable” about being placed in competition against his colleagues. “However, this is a metric of the lifetime impact of a scholar’s research,” he noted. “So by this metric maybe their research hasn’t been impactful . . . yet.”
