Zicklin School Honors Outstanding Students and Faculty

At the Zicklin School’s Honors and Recognition Ceremony, held on May 5, 2023, 102 undergraduate and graduate students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society. Beta Gamma Sigma is the most prestigious honor society for business students at AACSB-accredited institutions; only the top 10 percent of BBA students and top 20 percent of graduate (MBA and MS) business students are eligible for membership. (Doctoral candidates are automatically eligible to join once their program requirements have been completed.)  

At the ceremony, Yildiray Yildirim, chair of the William Newman Department of Real Estate and director of the Steven Newman Real Estate Institute, was honored for his service to the Baruch chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. Elliot Axelrod, who is Beta Gamma Sigma Epsilon chapter president as well as professor and chair emeritus, Department of Law, was also honored, and alumna Salome Makharadze (BBA, ’05), who is a managing director at Goldman Sachs, was an honorary inductee.  

Additionally, 10 students were inducted into Sigma Iota Epsilon, the honor society for management students; and eight students were inducted into Sigma Nu Tau, the honor society for students of entrepreneurship.  

Aside from the honor society inductions, seven Zicklin faculty members received awards for teaching excellence: Monica Neamtiu of the Stan Ross Department of Accountancy; Dexin Zhou of theBert W. Wasserman Department of Economics and Finance; Chaoqun Deng of the Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics; Patrick Reed of the Department of Law; Judith Ryba of the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management; Ana Valenzuela of the Allen G. Aaronson Department of Marketing and International Business; and Pavel Krivenko of the William Newman Department of Real Estate.
