Zicklin Student-Athlete Helps Raise Nearly $100,000 for COVID-19 Relief
May 14, 2020As the saying goes, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” That’s what Zicklin undergraduate Luke Lombardi decided to do when the Baruch Bearcats baseball season was cut short due to COVID-19.
With no games left to play, Lombardi, who plays catcher, got involved with the Makin’ Lemonade Fund, a virtual fundraiser for COVID-19 relief co-founded by his high school buddy Jesse Kay.
“When Jesse told me about the organization he started, I was all in,” said Lombardi, who is assistant director of Makin’ Lemonade. “I see every day on the news about how much the front line workers are working, and how many people are in need of food. I really liked the idea of Gen Z students coming together to make a difference in these tough times.”
Lombardi was interviewed about his efforts by sports anchor Bruce Beck on NBC Channel 4.
