In Memoriam: Michael Carew (1938-2023)

“It is with great sorrow that I share news of the passing of Michael Carew, distinguished lecturer of economics at Bert W. Wasserman Department of Economics and Finance,” writes Professor  Jonathan Wang, chair of the Bert W. Wasserman Department of Economics and Finance. “Dr. Carew passed away on November 1 at the age of 85.

“Dr. Carew joined the Zicklin School in 2002, after a successful career in business. He authored four books on economic policy and historic events, including Becoming the Arsenal: The American Industrial Mobilization for World War IIThe Impact of the First World War on U.S. Policymakers: American Strategic and Foreign Policy Formulation, and Revisiting the Roots of the Cold War.

“He was a beloved professor at the Zicklin School, teaching various economics classes and coaching undergraduate teams for the Fed Challenge, a national competition in which teams formulate monetary policy recommendations based on hypothetical economic and financial scenarios. Dr. Carew’s contribution to the worlds of higher education and economics will be sadly missed by those who knew him.”
