March 9 Webinar: The New York Philharmonic: Managing in a Crisis

The pandemic may have forced the NY Philharmonic to cancel live performances through June 2021, but this doesn’t mean the music stopped! Deborah Borda, President and CEO, and Peter May, Co-Chairman, will discuss with our benefactor, Larry Zicklin (BBA, ’57) the effects of the pandemic, how the organization responded, and its outlook. What has cancellation meant for artists and listeners? How successful are digital services and events? What lessons has the Philharmonic learned, and what does all this mean for the business side of the organization? And more. Followed by Q&A led by Professor Gwen Webb.

In Memoriam

It’s with great sadness that I am informing you that our friend and colleague Prof. Bob Blau passed away on February 10th, after a long battle with cancer.
Bob earned a PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University and had a very successful career in the financial industry before joining the Zicklin School in 2000 as a Lecturer (doctoral schedule) in the Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics. He was a passionate teacher and a fierce student supporter. He pushed constantly for better education standards, especially in quantitative courses. He was also a great conversationalist on just about every topic from wine to politics to music and a constant presence in the department and beyond. The ultimate polymath, he loved attending research talks and seminars throughout the College.
